Marco Rubio has been the junior US Senator from Florida since he surprisingly won the seat during the 2010 midterm elections. Being a second-generation Cuban American, he is one of currently three Latin (hispanic and latino) American US Senators. However, Rubio is not seeking reelection in 2016 due to his presidential campaign.
Age: 44 (born May 28, 1971)
Campaign: Marco Rubio: A New American Century
Main political views: Rubio is considered to be a candidate for the establishement of the Republican party, as his views align with traditional GOP values. He is also viewed as a candidate who can win the important and growing “latin vote” and has promoted an interventionist approach to foreign policy.
Chances of winning: Rubio is considered to be one of the front-runners. Even though untraditional anti-establishment candidates such as Ben Carson and Donald Trump have polled better, Rubio is still many people’s favorite to win the Republican nomination.
Update: Marco Rubio withdrew from the race on March 15 after losing his home state Florida. After a strong start in the primaries, Rubio lost momentum in March and fell behind.
